Opinion: Reasons Why IPOB Members Who Burnt The Spare Parts Truck In Enugu Should Not Be Imprisoned If Caught

In the early hours of today, several news media houses gathered that there was an incident of truck burning that occured in Nsukka, Enugu state. After this report went viral, it occurred to me that there are cogent reasons why the Indigenous People of Biafra's (IPOB) Members, who were alleged to have burnt the spare parts truck to ashes, should not be imprisoned if eventually caught.

First, when any IPOB Member who supported the burning of the truck in Enugu gets caught, he or she should not be imprisoned because he would serve as the root to knowing how other members carry out criminal activities.

Secondly, if any IPOB Member who took part in burning the spare parts truck gets caught, he or she shouldn't be imprisoned because it may lead to jailbreak like it happened in Nigeria sometimes ago. Recall that a correctional facility was once invaded and prisoners escaped and some reports still hold that not all of them have been caught till date.

Thirdly, if the Nigerian security agency arrests the IPOB members, the owner of the truck shouldn't get them imprisoned because he might not get anything reasonable at the end. He should rather ensure that they agree to a date when the IPOB members would pay back in cash with the presence of Officers of the law.

Again, I think another reason why IPOB members who burnt the spare parts truck in Enugu state shouldn't be imprisoned is for them to also work tediously in order to pay back for the damage they have caused. With this point, they would understand that getting money to buy spare parts is not a play thing.

If all these measures are taken, I think they would yield positive results because I know of someone who was once imprisoned for commiting a crime. During his stay in the prison, he couldn't pay back for the crime he committed. It was after he was released he worked his ass off in order to pay for the havoc he has caused himself.

Do you agree with these views of mine? If no, what are the other measures to be taken instead of imprisoning any IPOB Members that get arrested?
